13 Pretty Places to Find Fall Foliage in Berlin
Berlin can be a beautiful city no matter what time of year it is, but there’s something special about the colors that pop up in Berlin in autumn. You can find them almost everywhere, but there are a few really great places to find fall foliage in Berlin.
From famous sights to not-so-touristy locations, here are a few of my favorite places to see autumn leaves in Berlin. Some are a little obscure, but others are easy to reach while you’re experiencing the typical things to do in Berlin.
Where to stay in Berlin
Berlin has lots of great neighborhoods for you to stay in and explore. If you’re visiting Berlin for the first time, it might be best for you stay somewhere central.
Many of the attractions are in Mitte or easily connected to Mitte by Berlin’s public transport, so you should stay somewhere in that region. Here are a few hotels we recommend.

When is the best time to see fall foliage in Berlin?

Early autumn can still sometimes feel like summer, and late fall can already start feeling like winter in Berlin. So when is the best time to come to Berlin if you want to see fall foliage?
I think the best time is October. Which I know doesn’t give you a huge window of opportunity, but sometimes the very end of September could work too.
You have to remember that Berlin is rather far north. So towards the end of October and the beginning of November, the weather starts turning cold quickly, and the leaves are already falling off the trees.
So if seeing these gorgeous leaves is a priority to you, your best bet is October, especially the middle of the month.

Where to find fall leaves in Berlin
To see some really interesting places in Berlin with colorful leaves, these are my suggestions.
Luckily most of them are easy to reach and fit into your normal sightseeing plans. And these will certainly make for some great photo ops on your trip to Berlin.
Lustgarten and Museum Island

Museum Island and the Berlin Cathedral are both probably on your Berlin bucket list, and it’s a gorgeous area any time of year. But fall is a wonderful time to see them when the colors really amp up that beauty.
Tiergarten

Tiergarten is a much loved Berlin park, and since it’s full of trees, it’s a great place to see the fall colors emerging. After visiting Brandenburg Gate and a few other nearby sights, go for a leisurely stroll through the park to snap a few photos.
Victory Column

After seeing Tiergarten’s colorful leaves from the ground level, why not climb the Victory Column and see them from above? This view really can’t be beat, and it’s probably one of the best places to see fall foliage in Berlin.

Monkey Bar/25 Hours Hotel

How about one more look over Tiergarten to see the leaves from above? We love Monkey Bar for its fantastic views of Berlin, including the Zoo and Tiergarten, and for its tasty and creative cocktails.
We even spent the night at the 25Hours Hotel in mid October (it was 25th for reference) and it was such a great time to see those leaves from our room. If you decide to book a room at the 25Hours Hotel, be sure to choose a “jungle” room.
Frankfurter Tor/Karl Marx Allee

I live close to Frankfurter Tor and Karl Marx Allee, a wide boulevard lined with stately Soviet era buildings. It also happens to be a tree-lined street that turns even more beautiful in October when those leaves change colors.
You can get some really nice pictures of Frankfurter Tor with the TV Tower in the distance. It’s also a nice place to go for a stroll from just east of Frankfurter Tor towards Alexanderplatz.

Viktoria Park

A little off the beaten path but still fairly central, Viktoria Park is a local favorite with a lot going for it.
It’s one of the highest natural points in the city, so there are great views from here. There’s a beer garden, and the city’s only waterfall – although it is artificial.
And it’s another great place to see fall foliage in Berlin. This park is worth seeing any time of year, but it’s especially pretty in autumn.
Prenzlauer Berg near U Senefelderplatz

Not far from the Senefelderplatz Ubahn station is a great area to look for fall colors climbing up a building. Look at the intersection of Schönhauser Allee and Saarbrücker Str. to see the building pictured above.
Also nearby is the Pfefferberg market, an indoor marketplace with lots of tasty food.

Charlottenburg Palace

Charlottenburg Palace is one of Berlin’s best castles, and it’s worth a visit even if you just admire it from the outside. The surrounding park and gardens are free, and it’s simply stunning in the fall with all the colorful leaves.
Friedrichsgracht on Fischerinsel

This hidden gem is located in Mitte not far from Museum Island, but tucked away on a street not many tourists venture down. I love the colorful vines that adorn this building.
For a better picture than mine, try to get here when the sun is at its highest to avoid the shadows.
German Chancellery esplanade

The government district has lots of pretty buildings and trees, and the variety of colorful autumn leaves is especially impressive here. After checking out the Reichstag Building, go for a stroll and admire the fall foliage here.
Prenzlauer Berg near Mauer Park

If you’re checking out Mauer Park, talk a stroll east of there and wander through some of the streets in that neighborhood. Not only are these pretty streets in general, but they have lots of colorful leaves in the fall.
The one pictured above is on Cantianstr but I’ve also seen some really beautiful trees along Gaudystr and several others in this area.
Gardens of the World

Called Gärten der Welt Berlin in German, this sprawling green park in the city is home to 10 international gardens. Each garden is imbued with the traditions and plant life of a certain region or country.
For example, you could take a stroll to England, hop over to Japan, bask in Balinese beauty, enjoy some Middle Eastern charm, or perhaps some Korean horticulture.
And if you’re here during the autumn months, you’ll get to see some amazing colors on the trees as you wander through the park.
Grunewald Tower

Known as the Grunewaldturm in German, this is a historical tower located in the Grunewald forest area in Berlin. And with so many trees right there in the forest, you’re sure to see some beautiful fall foliage.
Climb 204 stairs to the viewing platform and enjoy stunning views of Wannsee, Havel, and Grunewald from this amazing brick building. There is also a restaurant and beer garden at the foot of the tower where you can enjoy yummy delicacies, or go hiking on one of the nearby trails.
